Water Heater Inspection

This is one inspection you don’t want to skip.

Most storage-tank water heaters have a life expectancy of 12 – 15 years. Not bad in the overall scheme of things.

Still, when it comes to your water heater, it’s far better to think short-term than long, just for the overall performance and safety of it. Meaning, if you want the most from your water heater and added protection for your home and family, it’s downright critical to have it fully inspected once a year by an experienced and licensed plumber… namely, Your 1 Plumber.

As stated above, ours is a performance AND safety inspection and here are just a few of the items included:

  • Inspect the tank and connection for rust, corrosion, and wear
  • Replace worn anode rods
  • Check pressure relief valve
  • Check thermostat to help prevent scalding
  • Check for water leaks
  • Check all electrical connections
  • Check for gas leaks
  • Check for carbon monoxide leaks
  • If needed, drain your tank to remove sediment

How does sediment end up inside your water heater tank in the first place? Mostly from excess amounts of magnesium and calcium inside your water supply. Over time and if not properly attended to, these hard water minerals will leave deposits on the sides and bottom of your tank that can eventually cause rust and corrosion. Once again, if your water heater isn’t routinely inspected and these problems go undetected for long periods of time, it’s bound to result in needless repairs, a shorter system lifespan, or both.
